Fulton County Health Department offers services for area women
Once a month the department has a Women’s Health clinic to provide pelvic and breast exams and pap smears for women no longer needing birth control. This clinic is held on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Every quarter the department also participates in a Women’s Health clinic with Graham Hospital in order to provide the above services in conjunction with a mammogram screening. The Women’s Health program can also offer financial assistance for mammograms through Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer program is also available for pap exams and mammogram financial assistance. Both programs have age, income and insurance coverage criteria to be met in order to qualify. Income requirements are determined by household size and gross size. Low income women die from breast and cervical cancer more than other women. Experts attribute these elevated mortality rates, in part, to the fact that these women generally do not receive regular mammograms and Pap tests. As a result, cancers are diagnosed at later stages when it is more difficult to treat them and the chances of survival are less.Fulton County Illinois - News

The next Federation of Genealogical Societies Conference for the Nation's Genealogists takes place in Springfield, Illinois from September 7-10, 2011. "Pathways to the Heartland" is the conference theme and it is hosted by the Illinois State Genealogical Society. Will you be passing through the Bloomington-Normal area on your way to Springfield for the FGS 2011 Conference? Many people will as so many interstate highways intersect in this area. If so, why not plan to spend a few hours at the Stevenson-Ives Library and Archives, which is home to the collections of the McLean County Genealogical Society, the McLean County Historical Society, and the Letitia Green Stevenson Chapter of the NSDAR. Outside of McLean County books, you can find other Illinois-related books such as History of Marion and Clinton Counties, Illinois ; Marriages, Fulton County, Illinois 1824 to 1861 (three volumes); and Calvary Cemetery, Aurora, Illinois . Books for other states include: Early Connecticut Marriages ; Montgomery County, Virginia Will Book 1, 1786-1809; Missouri Marriages Before 1840 ; and Revolutionary War Soldiers of Western North Carolina, Burke County . In the non-state-specific books, you will find collections such as The Famine Immigrants: Lists of Irish Immigrants Arriving at the Port of New York, 1846-1851 (seven volumes) and The Second Boat . You can also find numerous books on the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. There are also several family genealogies, many with ties to McLean County. Another thing the library collects are biographies about local individuals. In the biography section you can find a book about John McNulta, a General in the Civil War; the books Owen Lovejoy: Abolitionist in Congress and The Journal of Robert C. Crihfield ; as well as books about Jesse W. Fell, Adlai Stevenson, and David Davis. In addition, the library collects books written by local individuals. You can find fiction books by local authors such as Wilson Tucker, Harold Sinclair, Charles Merrill Smith, and Rachel Crothers. The library has a variety of journal holdings for genealogy organizations across the state, in addition to many from Iowa and Missouri.
