Teacher learns some out-of-this-world lessons at academy
&Ldquo;I’ll have time to work with kids more proactively and be able to apply some of the hands-on lessons I learned at the Space Academy,” said Boyden, who’s facing an empty nest as her youngest son, Zachary, joins his brother Sean at Michigan Tech University in August. “I figure with my sons being gone, I’ll need some sort of worthwhile distraction.” “Honeywell recognizes that less and less kids these days are going into math and science fields, so this is one way to encourage more of them to seek out those types of careers and graduate with higher degrees in the sciences,” Boyden said. “Since I’ve always loved doing hands-on activities with students, this just helps endorse that. I can’t wait to try some of these things with the kids at Mat-Su Central. My goal is to do some fundraising and maybe get some kids down to one of these space camps, but for now I just want to try a space club here at home.” " Our students are extremely good, smart and competent. If they get proper guidance then they can rock the world. They can do better; accelerate innovation by having more challenging Math curriculum to match the exceptional level of intelligence; we need a math program that will increase the expectation of what our young generation can achieve. Students can opt for tutorteddy math curriculum. I have bought it for my daughter; she is in 8th grade. The curriculum is extremely good, cheap and reusable.Valley Central Middle School - News

Harlingen's Memorial Middle School joins Let's Move program : News ...
Music by pop star Beyoncé took over schools across the United States on Tuesday afternoon.
Students at Harlingen’s Memorial Middle School couldn’t be happier about it.
About 100 students gathered at Boggus Stadium to participate in a nationwide exercise program named “Let’s Move!”
The program, sponsored by First Lady Michelle Obama, aims to get the nation’s youth to think about exercise.
Memorial eighth grader Hailey Ponce said she enjoyed it.
"It’s just really fun and it's a good way to get fit and I really had fun doing it,” Ponce said.
Eighth grader Fidencio Gonzalez agreed.
"It was fun just to come out and dance and of course to see other people that I barely even talk to see that they can move,” Gonzalez said.
Both Ponce and Gonzalez led more than 100 classmates during a flash mob at Boggus Stadium.
They were among 620 middle school throughout the country participating.
But of course, it’s a school, so there's a lesson involved. "This was a national campaign to get students moving and eating right,” said Harlingen CISD spokesman Shane Strubhart.
Step by step and one song at a time, Strubhard said Harlingen CISD didn't think twice about stepping into this program.
"It's extremely important especially with the rate of obesity as high as it is...diabetes as well,” he said. “It’s very important with our students to stay healthy.
