Cleveland Rifle Club to have CMP M-1 Garand Clinic
ZANESVILLE -- The Zanesville Rifle Club will sponsor its final Civilian Marksmanship Program Clinic of the year on Saturday.
This program is different from the previous clinics, as it will focus on the World War II era M-1 Garand rifle. This is an opportunity for novice shooters, both juniors and adults, who have an interest in military rifle marksmanship to get experience in an official match-like setting. The Zanesville Rifle Club has a reputation of being one of the best places in the state for the teaching and training of competitive shooters. Some of the best M-1 Garand marksmen in the state will be on hand to instruct these novice clinic shooters.
The clinic will consist of about three hours of basic rifle safety and marksmanship instruction. Included are: sighting and sight alignment, shooting positions for CMP M-1 Garand competitions, trigger control, and CMP match procedures. Range safety and safe gun handling also will be covered. Completion of a CMP clinic such as this is one of the requirements for purchasing firearms from the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
In the afternoon, after the instruction session, there will be a 50-shot coached practice match. The course of fire will be: 20 shots prone slow-fire, 10 shots prone rapid-fire (70 seconds), 10 shots sitting rapid-fire (60 seconds), and 10 shots standing slow-fire, all shot from 200 yards. Time allocations for slow-fire rounds are one minute per shot. Instructors will be available during the match to assist the clinic shooters with all aspects of rifle safety and marksmanship.
Cost of the clinic is $20 for adults and juniors age 20 and younger are free.
The club has a limited number of M-1 Garands to loan to those who can't provide their own. Shooting coats and other equipment will be available if needed. Loaner rifles must be requested in advance and .30-06 ammunition will be available for purchase at the range. The $20 clinic fee does not include ammunition however ammunition is also free for juniors. If you are using one of the clubs rifles, the ammunition must be bought from the club.
Pre-registration is recommended, but you can register on the morning of the clinic. This is an all-day event. An adult is required to be in attendance with any junior younger than 18.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. July 9. The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. To pre-register, call Jeff Dutro at (740) 454-8358 or download the entry form and clinic bulletin from www.zanesville rifleclub.com.
