$100000 grant announced to build municipal garage
Once the formal paperwork is processed the checks will be released and the municipal project will begin in early fall of this year.
Stop signs and a 15 mph speed limit was proposed for Quail Hill based on the recommendation of the survey conducted by Sgt Saranchuk and the police department.
The solicitor will prepare an ordinance and it will be advertised and added to next’s month meeting for approval.
Dupont Borough will send an application for 2011/12 gaming monies for paving Simpson, Lincoln, Smith, Curtain streets.
Letters have been sent to Senator Blake and Representative Carroll applying for $50,000: $20,000 for new windows in the administration office and new energy saving lighting and $30,000 for a police vehicle.
Proposals for patch pave work were read and discussed by council.
Councilmen Mark Kowalczyk explained at the meeting that the idea for this project was that certain streets including sections of Simpson Street are in bad condition especially at the intersections. His thought was to mill the intersection and pave to hold the streets together until funding is available to surface the entire street.
He noted that monies for this project are not through grant funding but from limited borough funds and therefore the best that can be done now is to patch pave.
Council will review and try to come up with a method of payment for this work and have an answer by next month’s meeting.
Resident John Tetlack presented a proposal to create a community garden on the land that was to be a sports complex on Garden Drive.
He noted that there are grants available for going green and that the land would now have a productive use.
Councilman Mark Kowalczyk invited Mr. Tetlack to participate as a member of the Recreation Board and present his idea to the many organizations in the community to stimulate interest.
Dupont Borough has begun designing the 2012 recycling event calendar. Patty McDonald, Borough Manager, asks any group or organization that would like to participate with articles or pictures for the calendar to contact her at borough office at 655-6216 as soon as possible.

OATMAN — The annual Oatman Pavement Egg Fry faced the biggest challenge in its 21-year history as it got under way Monday afternoon. Namely, the lack of its star participant, the sun.
For more than two decades now, visitors from all over the country have flocked to the tiny former mining town to watch and participate in the annual July Fourth egg fry, where competitors use various means to harness the sun’s light and heat to literally fry eggs on the pavement, lending credence to the popular hot- weather expression. In previous years, the event has been covered by news outlets as varied as USA Today, National Public Radio and the Weather Channel.
But as the gray clouds hung stolidly overhead Monday morning, only the Daily News and a travel writer for Arizona Highways magazine came out to bear witness to just over a dozen brave souls who sought to fry their eggs with neither the sun nor the heat on their side.
“It’s the first time in 21 years we haven’t had any sun,” lamented Fred Eck, who founded the annual egg fry in 1991 and has hosted it each subsequent year. “If we had had it on Saturday it would’ve been great. Saturday got up to 118 degrees.”
It was only about 87 degrees at high noon in Oatman on Monday, but that didn’t seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd of several dozen people (and the occasional burro) who gathered in the street to watch the proceedings. Dan Reid, of San Francisco, was among this year’s participants, travelling 750 miles to get to Oatman, where he attempted to heat his egg in a heart-shaped foil container using a magnifying glass.
“This is what people should do on the Fourth of July — fun things, Route 66,” Reid said. “I wish you could go back in time, but this is as close as you can get.”
Reid noted that he and his travelling companion, Ethan Glassman, has been to Oatman in the past, but never for the egg fry. He admitted that they weren’t approaching the competition with any real strategy, but added that the approach did have its upside.
“We figure, if you have strategy, you have expectation,” he said. “And if you have expectation, you can be let down.”
Reid went on to win second place, though given the circumstances, winners were judged more by how congealed their uncooked eggs were, rather than how quickly they had been fried. While most other competitors adopted similar methods to Reid, others were slightly more unorthodox.
