The company’s namesake founder wasn’t thinking nationally when she donned her first signature shift as a 20-something society wife in Palm Beach. Practicality was more important for the woman who, encouraged to get a hobby, decided to sell oranges from husband Peter’s citrus groves to her mansion-dwelling friends and neighbors.

Lilly Pulitzer was a young, recently married, sassy socialite who needed something to camouflage the fruit stains inevitable at that juice stand, which she opened in 1960 on Via Mizner near Worth Avenue. She found a colorful print and charged her seamstress with creating a cool, stylish silhouette.

When Pulitzer started wearing her first Classic Shift dress — lined with lace seam bindings — friends noticed and wanted their own. Juice-stand sales went national when a photo of childhood friend Jackie Kennedy wearing a Classic Shift appeared in Life Magazine.

Throughout the 1960s and ’70s, Pulitzer’s company flourished with an expanding line of apparel. Original prints added charm.

Pulitzer closed her business doors in 1984. The company started its second life in 1993, when she sold it. Now a company consultant and Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau, she still lives in Palm Beach.

And even if we did not own one, we still looked at them and thought about owning one. There is just something about those cheerful pink and green tropical, flowery, print dresses.

What other fabric/print has a cult following? Dressing from head to toe in Lilly has been a tradition for generations of Lilly lovers and now there is more — much more, as I discovered on my visit to the Kravet/Lee Jofa showroom in the Miromar Design Center in Estero.

This bedding set looks great! It’s pretty comfortable, and easy to wash. Also, everything seems to be pretty breathable so I don’t have to worry about him pressing his face against his bedding and not being able to breathe.

The bib we got was not the same camoflauge bib shown in the picture. Ours is a solid light blue that matches everything else. The crib bumper seemed a few inches shorter than what I would have liked. It leaves a very small gap in one of the corners, and I had to stretch it pretty tight to leave that small of a gap. I knew crib bumpers were supposed to be tight to keep little arms and legs from getting trapped, but I didn’t think it would have to be that tight! However, it still looks good and serves it’s purpose well, so I don’t mind. The pillow is very small, and super thin, which I like because it’s not such a suffocation hazard. I purchased the pink camo bedding set from this company a couple months ago (which is ‘currently unavailable and they don’t know when or if it will be back in stock’. It isn’t showing up in search, so I am posting my review on this blue set.). It is not what you see online. The material is thin, rough, and EASILY comes apart. As you should wash any new bedding prior to your infant sleeping on it, I washed all the pieces (accept the skirt). Washing it not only caused it to lose its commercial pressing (I’ve tried to iron it and even my ironing can’t get rid of the wrinkles), but many of the seams came undone, many of the stars ripped off/came undone in a shredded fashion, and some of the color bled/ran. It would not hold up and definitely won’t hold up if washed again. I wrote an Amazon review stating my experience. I immediately got a phone call from Johnny, the Soho Bedding Customer Service Manager. At first I didn’t recognize the phone number so I didn’t answer.
