New Suit Alleges Sony Cut Staff Prior to PSN Breach
Geek.com reports that a "confidential witness" says a number of the employees were part of Sony's Network Operations Center , who were tasked with preventing and responding to network security issues. Another confidential witness claims Sony "spent lavishly" to protect its own proprietary development server, "but recklessly declined to provide adequate protections for its customers' personal information." According to the Huffington Post , the suit alleges that Sony knew it was at risk of an attack as it had already suffered smaller breaches.
New York residents Felix Cortorreal, Jacques Daoud Jr. and Jimmy Cortorreal are behind this latest lawsuit. They want actual damages in the amount paid for the equipment and network, an "appropriate restitution" for class members, as well as other forms of relief. Sony is already facing a class action suit in Los Angeles, as well as one filed by Kristopher Johns who alleges a number of failures on Sony's part led to the PlayStation breach .
Lets discuss simple basic security facts:
Audio/Videdo Chat: While this can be disabled for the PS3 itself ...in other words JUST while in the XMB... in game is an entirly different matter; with NO restrictions other than the silly rating system. Its just part of the game, that according to one Sony engineer is required for proper gameplay (???). Or in other words, the game isnt fully playable if its say a team situation where you would communicate with others on your team. The ability in the XMB to disable audio/video chat should be a GLOBAL feature and include in-game chatting, not simply restricted to XMB interface alone.
Next, even though Im a PS3 fanman (really, I have the sweet 80 GB unit that PS2's as well -I upgraded HDD to 500 GB so I could fit the over $1000 of DLC all at once) I have to give credit to the dreaded ?-Box. It adds the ability, which in my view is CRUCIAL to child safety and the internet, to 'Block Non-Friend Messaging'. I cant tell you how many times Iv been running around in Home just to be bombarded with chain letters or even watching and/or being harrassed; sometimes at an explicit level. While its understood that one can use the 'Report' feature; if its someone who isnt using authorized PSN FW it may not matter.

In November 2008 Sony introduced a 160 GB PlayStation 3 for $499, at which time they dropped the price of the 80 GB version to $399. In September 2009, Sony in effect dropped the price again with the launch of the PS3 Slim at $299.
When I payed $400+ for my PS3, I was sold on the idea of being able to play PS2 on the new PS3, plus being able to run Linux on the PS3. then they went ahead and removed those abilities in the revised (80GB) PS3 and the new firmware without saying

This is the first and only Slim model of the PS3 to bring back the ability in Launch Model (FAT) 60/80 GB PlayStation 3′s to play PS2 games (Original of course) but the price is something the consumers should really watch out for, for a 320GB this is
Going out of topic for a bit here, I was really hyped to finally play the game when suddenly, my PS3 won't start anymore because of YLOD and it happened just after the PSN firmware update so I'm not sure if it was because of that or because my 80GB PS3
Is Ps3 Fat 80Gb 3rd cooler than Ps3 Slim 120Gb 4th?
You're wrong - on multiple points. first, a 2-usb port ps3 fat and the 1st gen slim are essentially the same hardware (practically the same cpu/gpu die size) EXCEPT the fat uses a LARGER heatsink & fan where the 1st gen slim uses shrunken sized fan & heatsink. if you've ever owned a 1st gen slim, you'll see that it gets pretty damn hot, probably hotter than 2nd gen fatties (1st gen fatties are still kings as far as heat creation though!). secondly, ps3 slims DO in fact ylod still - most notably the 1st gen slims. you're wrong - on multiple points. first, a 2-usb port ps3 fat and the 1st gen slim are essentially the same hardware (practically the same cpu/gpu die size) EXCEPT the fat uses a LARGER heatsink & fan where the 1st gen slim uses shrunken sized fan & heatsink. if you've ever owned a 1st gen slim, you'll see that it gets pretty damn hot, probably hotter than 2nd gen fatties (1st gen fatties are still kings as far as heat creation though!). secondly, ps3 slims DO in fact ylod still - most notably the 1st gen slims. I can second this. I hear any of them can ylod and the fat models got significantly less ylod prone over time. It was mostly the first few fat models that were getting ylod. A lot of it just comes down to care and maintenance. Myself and a lot others prefer fat because they downgraded the hardware quite a bit on the slims. It's all preference though he said he had a 2-usb port, which would make it a 65/65, one step above the 1st gen slim (65/45). what i was referring to was the drastic change in hardware SIZE between a fat and a slim. while the latest gen slim does run a lot less power and SHOULD run the coolest, given it's limited size in heatsink, i'd still think the 2-usb port 80Gb fatty has potential to run with a slower fan speed...
