Local High School Students Graduate from BOCES Tech Center
Future fashion designers, chefs, graphic artists, builders, environmental scientists, engineers, nurses and physicians graduated last night from Putnam Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services’ Tech Center in Yorktown.
The newly graduates came from 18 local school districts. The 534 students graduated from 41 programs of study including Advertising Art and Design, Animation and Motion Graphics, Baking and Pastry Arts, Automotive Repair, Law Enforcement, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts and Masonry. Students also graduated from the highly competitive, New Visions Honors programs in Education, Environmental Science and Health.
“Students at the Tech Center are a step ahead,” said Hayley Ruotolo, a Briarcliff High School student who attended the Culinary Arts program. “We have skills, knowledge and experience but most of all, we have passion.”
Ruotolo will be attending the Culinary Institute of America in the fall to study Baking and Pastry Arts and Food Management.
Kimberly Snyder, a New Visions Environmental Science student from Ossining High School, told her peers that although the problems facing the world are numerous, the students have the skills, talent and imagination to tackle them. She will be studying at Cornell University next fall.
Danielle Cammilleri, a Cosmetology student from Carmel High School, credited the Tech Center’s teachers and programs with transforming her from a sophomore who struggled with school and wondered if she would ever graduate into a graduate with big dreams for the future.
“Teachers at Tech make you feel good about yourself,” she said.
The Tech Center offers 41 career and technical education programs ranging from traditional technical programs like cosmetology and auto mechanics to programs in Environmental Science, Health, graphic arts, animation and engineering. Graduates have been accepted at a wide array of colleges including Cornell University, Rice University, Fordham University, Marist College, Fashion Institute of Technology, Virginia Tech and others.
Many graduates are leaving the Tech Center with up 15 college credits and Regents’ Diplomas with Technical Endorsement.
Students from the following school districts attend BOCES, Bedford, Brewster, Briarcliff, Carmel, Chappaqua, Ctoron-Harmon, Garrison, Haldane, Katonah-Lewisboro, Lakeland, Mahopac, North Salen, Ossining, Peekskill, Putnam Valley, Hendrick Hudson, Somers and Yorktown.
