Oneupweb : What's Blog Got To Do With It?

Oneupweb : What’s Blog Got To Do With It?

I recently started working here at Oneupweb and this is the first time I have been asked to blog. I started to sweat right away and I had to ask myself why I was writing this. It’s a bit outside the 70 character range of more PPC text ads. Typically PPC people craft the haiku of internet marketing, short, purposeful, lots of bang for your buck. Every word is a nuanced masterpiece.

PPC advertising is the Steve Prefontaine of internet writing (little, but fast and effective). Blogging is more like a sumo wrestler. The original post may not even be that long, but as comments get added the ideas presented lock in sweaty combat until a loser is forced from the ring.

Another downside of blogs is that they can be inaccurate and derivative. So why blog and why read them?

Well, the web and the rules that govern advertising on it are always changing. And they change quickly with little warning. A quality blog can pinpoint a small change and suss out how it will affect you. Some changes impact us in small ways. Others have the power to fundamentally alter the way we work and use the web. With tweaks occurring on a daily basis it can be helpful to read an experts extrapolation of what a seemingly small change will mean for you.

As the writer of a blog it is a way to look at an event, news story, or announcement, and then filter it through your experience in the day to day reality of the web. The end result is so much more informative than the boiler plate legalese of a corporate announcement.

If you could use some help filtering through the wealth of information the internet provides for online marketing, maybe we can help. Whether it’s reading a pithy blog post or helping to create the digital marketing strategy that works wonders for your company, Oneupweb is here to help you make sense of it all.

Excellent points.

Isn’t it interesting how the internet has given a voice to the voiceless, power to the powerless, and at the same time, a way for those who would seek to exploit or misinform to do so with ease.

As you have so keenly pointed out, even though we must take with a grain of salt so many of the things that we read online, we also have organizations (such as yours) and writers (such as yourself) that give us insight we wouldn’t normally have.

I partially agree with both you and Sri - while it is true that I have not (recently) written to the lawmakers, and more often than not I vent my frustration here - especially each time the visa bulletin appears and then tend to go on with my life, I have in the past written, telephoned, faxed to lawmakers. Over the past 2 years I have seen bills come and go. I am at a stage now where I have almost resigned to the fact that maybe there is not much that we can do - especially given the low level of participation from members here at IV. OP, just so you know, the majority of the posters here have to endure long long waits for their US green cards, greater than 10 years sometimes. Because of that they tend to become hyper sensitive when it comes to immigration matters, especially when they think someone is stepping out of line and trying to manipulate the system. Dont mean to imply at all , thats what you are doing. Why do think that someone here has a power to do something but is deliberately not doing it? You seem to think that others on the forum are giving you "excuses"? That's funny. Often on these forums I have seen folks with the loudest (and mostly disrespectful or distasteful) expression try to drive, causing an accident right in the start. Actually, I think participating in the debate to present the other point of view (as in 'foreign workers are good for the US economy') is a good thing to do. Giving the forum out to the antis is a good way to make sure Durbin gets his message reaffirmed. Well, that's all true, unless you are one of those people who likes to yell 'Close the door!' right after they get in.
