Broken Arrow Teen Fights Off Burglary Suspect - NewsOn6.com ...

BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -- A 19-year-old Broken Arrow man fought off a burglar he discovered in his vehicle then helped police track down the suspect early Friday morning.

Trey O'Donnell said he was going to get a late-night bite to eat at 1:30 a.m.

"Walked outside to go to Taco Bell to get everybody in the house some food and there was a guy sitting in the car, taking apart my dash," O'Donnell said.

O'Donnell said the guy was trying to rip out the stereo.

"What are you doing in my car man? This ain't cool, this doesn't happen around here," O'Donnell says he asked the thief.

The 19-year-old's adrenaline then took over.

"I grabbed him by his shirt and said, 'come here,' and he started struggling so I picked him up by his neck and carried him up to the front door," he said.

But the teen got loose, ran toward his two buddies in a blue pickup and O'Donnell followed in the car, eventually cornering the truck down the street.

"I was punching his truck and finally got to the passenger side of his window and swung in through it and hit the guy in the face," O'Donnell said.

The "guy" is 20-year-old William Ferguson, who O'Donnell knows.

Police say Ferguson and the 18-year-old driver, Joshua Schultz, sped away and eventually got stopped by Broken Arrow Police, thanks to O'Donnell's 911 call and detailed description of the truck.

Both suspects are facing second degree burglary charges.

"Of course, we don't encourage victims of crimes to necessarily get involved, but certainly when it works out it seems to be okay," Major Mark Irwin, with Broken Arrow Police, said.

While O'Donnell deals with some dents and dings, he said he'll forget the fisticuffs in the future.

"It was just on instinct to go after him, but next time if it happens, I will shoot somebody," he said.

O'Donnell said this was the fourth time in two years burglars have hit his place.

Police are still searching for a third suspect, believed to be the one who was in O'Donnell's car. They say they have his name and will arrest him soon.

Police also say this group may be responsible for other car burglaries in the area.
